The Downfall of John Mayer

I used to really love John Mayer back in high school, like before he got super popular and everything. I still like his music a lot, as I cannot deny the fact that he is an amazing musician. Up in the ranks with Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix even. But I kind of hate that because I think the more popular he got, the more @$$-like he became.  My friend Natalie and I went to one of his concerts at Blossom last summer and we could have sworn that he was high as a kite during the performance. Like, half of the stuff he said didn’t even make sense, it was just self-centered rambling.

However, I also think many of his earlier lyrics are brilliant. So I have posted two earlier John Mayer songs; one that is kind of a mystery and one that is pretty famous.

Breakaway. I can’t figure out which album, if any, this song is on. It’s not on iTunes or anything. I remember listening to this in my dorm freshman year of college, but I don’t know how since I don’t have a copy of it anywhere!

Split Screen Sadness. My favorite John Mayer song ever, and definitely on the list of my most favorite songs.

“So what, so I’ve got a smile on. It’s hiding the quiet superstitions in my head. Don’t believe me… don’t believe me when I say I’ve got it down” –Why Georgia, John Mayer
