(Also known in John’s words as “Meowzer.”)
(Also known in Alyssa’s words on Facebook as “furball,” whereafter I commented that “I loooooove my furball :-D”, whereafter Nick commented “I’m sure John does as well.”)
We successfully eradicated the fleas, thanks to Frontline Plus from the vet. I washed every fabric known to man that existed in our apartment!
Next order of business was finding out that he had a tapeworm in his belly. I figured this out because he was leaving behind these sesame-seed like things on blankets where he would lay for a long time. I Googled it, and it turns out they are dried up tapeworm eggs. Yeah. The tapeworm lays eggs and then just find their way out of his body. (Note: cats get tapeworms by eating fleas that ate tapeworm larvae. SICK.) So we went to the vet on Wednesday and got rid of that too.
At the vet I found out that Melvin has an ulcer on his eye. Apparently it is caused by the herpes virus, which is prevalent in kittens who come from shelters. Apparently Melvin was a stray before he went to the shelter, which was before he wound up at the pet store. So he’s been through a lot of stress, which is known to exacerbate the herpes. The vet gave me a disgusting eye gel that I have to squirt into his eyes. HA, good luck with that. He yeowls so loud and sqiurms and shuts his eyes and does everything he can to avoid this happening. At this rate, he will have herpes forever!
In summary, he is one sick kitty :-(. Don’t buy your pets at One of a Kind.
