Cut me some slack. I don’t have any kids to write about.
I wish I knew Melvin’s exact age—all I know from his paperwork is that when he came to One of a Kind Pets in February, they estimated his age at 4-6 months. That would make him 8-10 months now. Already since I have had him, I have seen him grow in many ways.
When he first came, he was not a jumper. His method of trying to get in the window sill was to stand on his hind legs and try to pull himself up with his front paws. I saw him try to climb on the bathroom counter this way too and he ended up hanging off of the cupboard. But now he can jump into the window by himself, and he is successful at jumping on other things too.
Also, he is in the process of learning the art of stalking. He just started doing this last week, where he will go and hide behind something and wiggle his booty and then jump out at it. The first time he did it he chose to hide behind my leg when I was sitting on the floor jingling one of his toys for him, but now he has started sneaking around the couch and hiding behind other objects too.

He has also figured out that there are birds and bugs outside that he might like to play with had he the chance. He sits at the window for an hour at a time watching invisible things I can’t even see. He hasn’t learned to make that cat clucking noise yet that kitties do when they see prey. I hope that is coming along because it would be cute.
He has also learned not to wake up John by stepping on him in the middle of the night. I think he got thrown off one too many times. Now, when he decides he is hungry (which could be any random hour from 3am – 6am), he crawls up alongside of me and puts his face by my ear and meows as softly as possible. Most of the time I want to ignore him, but he will keep at it until I get up. I have to do this for at least another week and a half—he needs medicine for his ulcers that I have to put on his food before he eats it. Then I will try to wean him off of waking me up!
