Today my older brother Greg left for his internship in France. He will be gone for the entire semester, which schedules him to arrive back home sometime around Christmas. John and I went to my parents’ house last night to see him off, so to speak. He had arrived in town by bus earlier that afternoon, and was scheduled to fly out the next morning, so we are lucky we were able to catch him!
I am kind of sad that I won’t be able to go to France to visit him during his stay. I have never been to a European country before, but still can’t afford to do so! Oh well… now he will get to enjoy all the croissants, crepes, pain au chocolat, and Orangina he can handle (which, given that other experience in France, might not be too much when it comes to the croissants…).
My French-speaking friend Myriam and I were talking about all of this this morning. She says Greg will come back completely fluent in French, especially considering that he is already on his way to that point without being in the country. She also says that she and I will practice my French so that I will be better at communicating with him when he comes back.
“Bring me back something French,” I said to Greg last night.
He said, “Je vous verrai a Noel.”
